Full-time Technical Editor

Technical Editor to join its documentation and courseware team based
at Hinjewadi, Pune.

General Summary of the Position:

  • Uses independent judgment to ensure information products are clear,
    effective, concise, and user-focused. Is a focal point in the group
    for content questions and problems. Ensures that technical
    documentation and courseware conform to industry best practices.
  • Establishes and maintains style guidelines for technical publications
    delivered with all products. Works independently and as a member of
    cross-functional teams. Mentors authors to improve their skills.
  • Develops solutions to localization issues related to information
    development; ensures adherence to solutions. Works with minimal
    direction from manager. Expected to resolve most issues independently.
  • Engages in strategic level planning for the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures that technical documentation and courseware conform to
    industry best practices and standards. Specifically, ensures adherence
    to guidelines for Information Model structure.
  • Applies expertise in technical communication and editing. Edits a
    high quantity of information in a timely manner with high level of
    quality. Edits multiple deliverable types and frequently edits
    information products for multiple PLM product areas.
  • Provides constructive feedback and builds effective and productive
    relationships with peers and stakeholders. Communicates routinely with
    authors on content issues.
  • Develops internal training for authors that is grounded in industry
    best practices; trains authors as appropriate. Provides feedback to
    managers on the strengths and weaknesses of authors.
  • Sets priorities and schedule.
  • Collaborates with Information Architects to create templates,
    prototypes, and job aids. Proposes and helps plan and implement
    creative, effective solutions.
  • Documents, conveys, and monitors practices to reduce localization
    costs across deliverables. Helps authors identify ways to address
    local language issues in the documentation and training.
  • Identifies and defines content issues and provides clear, timely
    feedback and recommendations to authors regarding content problems,
    including organization, logic, clarity, focus.
  • Understands and successfully uses complex xml development tools and
    environment. May identify xml tagging issues.
  • Ensures that the customer deliverables are easy to understand and
    maintains a user focus.
  • Edits documentation for adherence to style, minimalism, and
    Information Model guidelines, and for compliance with local language
    guidelines.
  • Provides clear, timely feedback to each author about content
    problems: organization, logic, clarity, focus.
  • Establishes style guidelines. Is the focal point for style questions
    and decisions.
  • Acts as the liaison with legal on copyright/trademark issues.
  • Mentors authors. Works with authors to improve their skills.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Superior English written language skills and knowledge of technical
    editing conventions for software product documentation.
  • Highly skilled in identifying content problems and communicating
    fixes; providing feedback, guidance, and advice. Experience editing
    technical content, preferably for the software industry.
  • Ability to understand technical/engineering concepts and to learn
    product functionality and application.
  • Knowledgeable about products being documented. Develops in-depth
    knowledge of customers.
  • Skills and experience working with electronic markup tools.
  • Highly skilled at managing multiple, non-related projects and
    changing deadlines. Well-developed skills in project management.
  • Background/experience dealing with end users and customers.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. Able to address problems
    in a direct yet diplomatic manner. Ability to work effectively with
    authors of varying skill levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to constant change. Ability to
    work in stressful environment under changing deadlines.
  • Strong personal and professional initiative; willing to take on new
    challenges; takes initiative to learn new skills; keeps current in
    industry trends.
