Full-time Senior Technical Writer

Technical Author – based in Bangalore

The Product Engineering Group is responsible for the Software Development and Tier 3 Support and Maintenance of all Evolving System’s products in accordance with requirements determined by Product Management.
The Technical Author’s primary activity is the development and maintenance of customer product documentation and online help for each release of the products. The group follows an agile methodology which encourages technical authors to liaise closely with software developers to elicit the detail of new product features. The documentation follows a single-source workflow.

Maintaining the Product Engineering Group’s document templates and intranet are secondary aspects of the job.

Key Responsibilities:
• Produce Product Manuals & Online Help
Update current product documentation as products are enhanced and produce new documentation deliverables when new products are developed. Liaise with local and remote developers to ascertain details of required changes.
Deliverables include: Installation Guides, Administration Guides, Operations Guides, API Guides, Database Guides; online help systems. Success measure is production of usable and useful documentation
• Estimating and Planning
Work with Line Manager and other stakeholders to develop estimates, plans and supporting materials for future programmes and projects.
• Process Improvement
Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of processes used by technical authors
• Maintain Product Engineering Group Intranet
Make product releases and their associated documentation available to other groups by adding them to the departmental intranet. Maintain other departmental information on intranet as required.
• Maintain Product Engineering Group Document Templates
Maintain templates for the process documentation produced by Product Engineering Group, such as Impact Assessments and White Papers.

Key Requirements:
• Degree or recognized professional qualification (Computer Science or related would be an advantage)
• Technical writing experience with a software product company.
• Can demonstrate good knowledge of the standard ‘tools of the trade’ (FrameMaker and RoboHelp experience would be an advantage.)
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to structure and present information appropriately for particular audiences.
• Have some experience of the software development process.
• Quality conscious, taking pride in your own work; can accept constructive criticism.
Excellent interpersonal skills, being able to forge links with all in a team, including on other sites; comfortable working with others, but able to work alone when necessary is essential.
• Open to other’s ideas, yet willing to share knowledge and experience; adaptable to change.
• Good attention to detail
• Disciplined, demonstrating effective prioritization and judgment; calm under pressure.
• Quick to learn, enthusiastic, positive, supportive, and helpful.
