Full-time Individual Contributor

Profile Summary:

An Individual Contributor produces a wide variety of information products (information solutions for a variety of audience types and technical levels) in an assortment of media output (PDF, HTML, online help, and HTML help) for Engagement Solutions and products at Avaya.
They work on one or more projects at a time. They work independently and have extensive hands on experience with the products and the environment in which they operate. They do not have a reliance on a Doc Manager to help direct the structure and format of the documents.

Essential Functions:

1. Conducts research to obtain information from written material, conversation and interviews with subject matter experts, and system usage to write and maintain clear, concise, and accurate information without the help of the Doc Manager.
2. Uses minimal SME time due to expert knowledge of the product and ability to absorb new product information through reading, demos, KTs, and use of product
3. Understands and adheres to Documentation Plans and Documentation Strategy and Design plans as it applies to current project assignments. Is able to develop Documentation Strategy and Design plans without help from the Doc Manager.
4. Creates content plans for assigned deliverables, ensures proper review, incorporates review feedback, and creates content based on approved plan.
5. Develops and maintains good rapport with all project related teams in the R&D community. Has the respect of R&D, Doc Team Managemt Team, and peers.
6. Handles customer correspondence, complaints, and inquiries, regarding information deliverables in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
7. Uses project management skills to manage writing assignments and projects.
8. Manages reviews of assigned information deliverables, incorporates feedback, provides Toolkit dispositions for all comments, and resolves problems based on review feedback. When managing a project, ensures that all information deliverables are following review process.
9. Adheres to Avaya style guide, doc templates, information architecture, and processes (for example, production, translations, DITA, quality control, and so forth).
10. Follows Agile development process and meets all doc commitments required from the Agile process
11. Understands Sim-Ship policy and is doc representative for developing Sim-Ship schedule with R&D and Localization team. Communicates content development status to localization project manager.
12. Works on more than one information deliverable at one time.
13. Follows documentation testing process and ensures that respective team is following process.
14. Participates in team decisions and strategies by offering solutions and ideas.
15. Keeps current with new technology and new technical writing practices.
16. Participates on project teams such as Extended Teams and R&D dev teams.
17. Domain knowledge across BUs and has an understanding of Avaya Solutions
18. DITA/XML and CMS SME
19. Edits content writen by other information developers


Required Skills:

• Specialist with DITA/XML, XML Editor, and CMS
• Strong Networking or Telecommunication domain knowledge
• Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, methodologies, and environments
• Strong interviewing and communication skills

• Ability to work under pressure
• Well organized
• Strong technical aptitude
• Ability to explain difficult concepts and maintain user perspective
• Strong knowledge of how to write content for use in multiple outputs

• Ability to foresee problems and develop mitigation strategies

Qualifications:
1. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, English, or Journalism (or equivalent).
2. Eight or more years of experience in Core Technical Writing field.
