Full-time Senior Technical Writer / Information developer

DEFTEC is global supplier of information development services headquartered in the US with offices worldwide. We are seeking a senior technical writer to join our small but quickly expanding Bangalore team, primarily serving the local R&D branch of our respected Fortune 100 client based in Whitefield, Bangalore.

Applicants must have at least 5 years background in technical writing preferably in telecommunications or software.

REQUIREMENTS

  • University / College Degree in (Technical) Communications, Journalism, English and/or any technical field with emphasis on information technology, telecommunications or engineering
  • Fluent English
  • High level of technical aptitude
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking
  • Ability to create, assimilate, and convey technical content in a concise and effective manner
  • At least 5 years of technical writing experience with strong authoring, editing, and reviewing skills
  • DITA expertise with practical knowledge of creating folders, templates, topics, maps per DITA industry specification
  • Knowledge of various authoring tools, documentation databases and content management systems
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent administration, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency in using various text editors

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead document development life cycle
  • Analyze development to determine need for update or revision in previously published documentation
  • Collect source material and background information (requirements, technical notes and product/process information) from developers, testers, product managers
  • Organize content and complete writing assignment according to set standards (order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology) and project requirements
  • Lead review cycle for document content with client representatives
  • Correct document according to review comments
  • Lead document approval round
  • Select and apply photographs, drawings, diagrams, charts, etc. to illustrate material
  • Maintain work records, files and document revisions
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to content prepared by other writers or client personnel
  • Review content written by other writers and recommend revisions or changes in scope, content or format
  • Develop document templates
  • Coordinate work assignments / project phases / subprojects
  • Provide general technical writing support to team members
  • Liaise with program managers, subject matter experts, and account manager to identify program documentation deliverables (input for documentation plans)
  • Study specifications, mockups, and product samples to familiarize with technology, product operating procedure, development sequence and other detail
  • Interview technical personnel and read background documentation to develop professional competence in product technologies and related production methods
  • Confer with customer representatives to establish technical specifications
  • Support sales team to develop technical content for client proposals
