Full-time Senior Software Technical Writer

SDI Global Services (SDI) is looking for a senior software technical writer to be located in Bangalore, India to produce and maintain customer documentation for various telecommunications software products. A technical writing job is information and organization oriented. The main task of a software technical writer is to decipher many different types of product-focused content and create documentation and online help that clearly enables the customer to successfully navigate through the features and functionality of a product. Audiences may range from non-technical end-users to engineers expert on the described subject. Technical writers also ensure a consistent voice throughout information products in collaboration with engineers, course developers, graphic designers, and other technical writers.

  • Writing mainly technical descriptions (user guides, design specifications, system manuals, online help) for various products, in different technical areas, mostly telecommunication
  • Editing technical content for clarity and consistency
  • Adhering to English style and formatting specifications, using several documentation tools
  • Keeping touch and managing contact with customers, engineers


  • High level of English skills – both oral and written
  • University degree (Telecommunications, Engineering and/or English major preferred)
  • Technical qualification or at least strong technical orientation
  • Understanding of telecommunication concepts and standards is an advantage
  • Above average computer literacy
  • Knowledge of some documentation tool and/or markup language (XML, HTML, DITA, Oxygen, etc.) is required
  • Knowledge in graphic design and user experience / usability tuning is an advantage
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking
  • Preciseness, attention to detail
  • Must be organized and self-motivated with ability to work independently and in virtual teams
  • Highly energetic with a strong work ethic
  • Experience in a similar position is an advantage

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, for various document types such as service, user, and operating manuals, installation guides, functional and product descriptions, reference documents.
  • Edit, standardize or make changes to material prepared by other writers.
    Review published materials and recommend changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
  • Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
  • Analyze developments in specific field to determine the need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material.
  • Review manufacturer’s and trade catalogues, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
